On December 10, 2009, Creative Arlington hosted its latest meeting, a gathering of entrepreneurs and others at the headquarters of Arlington Economic Development. Almost 30 people braved bitter cold to listen to Tara Miles from AED describe co-working opportunities and participate in brainstorming. The group created a Creative Arlington Co-working Group to spearhead the…

I am an amateur song writer. Mostly I write music, but can create some lyrics. Looking to meet with, play with and collaborate with other local songwriters. I'd particularly like to find some talented people who can help me musically script my music so I can submit it for copyright. Once I copyright some of my tunes, I'd like to refine them further, with improved lyrics. I would love to find people who know about musical notation, musical scripting, computer know-how and software to assist in…

A number of people have asked me the title of the book I mentioned at the Arlington Arts Center event last night (September 10, 2009), when I referred to the Funniest Joke in the World, the social nature of laughter, and the importance of face-to-face interaction as one portion of the Creative Arlington model. That book is

Seems that everywhere I go these days I'm talking with people about how Arlington can foster new media initiatives. The topic (which I've been following for a while) came up at a conference I attended about a month ago, where I heard a a powerhouse panel including people like Ezra Klein from the Washington Post and
Nathalie Applewhite from The Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting. I had a long discussion about the…

Make no mistake: Arlington County is committed to building a community of knowledge workers -- what we here call the Creative Class. I was struck by this again as I reviewed the final, approved copy of the Arlington Economic Development Commission's Strategic Plan, which is available
