What is your interest in the Creative Arlington beta community?: Helping to create a coworking/incubator/social space where entrepreneurs can work and meet.

How do you or would like to use your imagination and original ideas to enrich the economy and culture in Arlington, and beyond?: Promote connections between entrepreneurs and provide back office, planning, and mentoring support to accelerate the growth of entrepreneurial companies.

Bio (html accepted): Peter Mellen is an entrepreneur with 20 years of experience working in online business, information technology, and commercial real estate. He is currently pursuing two ventures related to green real estate, as well as advising and investing in socially responsible startups and managing a portfolio of commercial real estate properties.

Previously, he served as Director Premium Education Services at AOL, where he was responsible for a portfolio of online services that generated over $3 million in revenue during its first year of operations. Prior to AOL, he played a key role in generating a 5x increase in revenue over three years as Vice President of Business Development for Safari Books Online. Immediately after earning his MBA in 1998, Mr. Mellen co-founded Headlight, an online learning company that raised more than $15 million of venture capital from investors that included Draper Fisher Jurvetson and the Silicon Valley Band of Angels.

Mr. Mellen currently serves on the Advisory Board of BUILD, a nonprofit that provides entrepreneurship education for youths in under-resourced communities. He is also a member of Investor’s Circle, a network of angel investors that uses private capital to promote the transition to a sustainable economy. Mr. Mellen earned a Bachelor's degree and an MBA (Honors) from Georgetown University. He is also a LEED Accredited Professional.
