crowdsourcing a creative economy in Arlington

How about an Arlington Children's Arts Festival?

I missed the Launch event, but am very interested in the possibilities of the organization. I would like to explore the possibility of an annual arts festival for kids in Arlington. It would be different than the County Fair or any other event that currently exists, as far as I know. But it could feature dance and art classes, book readings, tie in with childrens theater such as Encore Stage. I keep hearing that some town down south (Charleston, maybe) has the premier children's book festival. Why don't we? We have tons of kids, huge cultural attractions nearby, good schools, and lots of creativity. I think we are the perfect place for such an event and would be willing to help plan it.

The 12th is good for me so far! Let's do it :-)

I think we have critical mass of interest to have a meeting to start talking about this in earnest. This week is totally, horribly bad for me, and next week is not great. Are people available the week of May 9th? Maybe Wednesday, which should be the 12th if I am not mistaken.
I would also be interested in brainstorming and helping to organize this effort. Great idea! Unfortunately, I am out of town on May 12th and 13th. Please post whatever the outcome was here, and the date for the next meeting.
Kathleen - sorry you won't be here on the 12, but that might be the only night that works for me.

Amy - how about the 12th at 7:00 pm at the Starbucks at the Lee Harrison shops? I think we should talk about 1) What exactly is it that we want to plan, with a goal of developing a concept paper to use for future planning and marketing, and 2) who else can we think of that might want to be involved?

I can be anywhere in Arlington if that Starbucks doesn't work for you.

Thanks - Jerry Gidner
I will be at the Harrison Lee Starbucks at 7:00 on Wednesday May 12th to start planning an Arlington Children's Arts and Literature Fair. Come by if you can. I am a tall guy with brown buzz cut and a beard.
I know this is an old post but living in Arlington I have not heard or seen this event take place yet.  I am HIGHLY interested in helping.  Just wondering is this idea still in the works.........if so how can I help?  I have access to many resources. -Jessica
Well - it never got off the ground, but I still think it would be a great idea.  Arlington has tons of kids, tons of art, tons of creative people.  Seems like it could become a very cool event.  Not sure how to get started with it.  Jerry
