Any thoughts on who offers the best small-class or individual painting lessons for an adult (using acrylics or watercolors, not oils) in the Arlington area?

Yes! The Arlington Artists Academy (affiliated with the Arlington Artists Alliance, CA's newest member) offers wonderful classes. Go on www.arlingtonartistsalliance.org to see the current classes. The spring semester begins in a few weeks.
Jane Mclevany Coonce, www.jmcelvany.com, is a wonderful teacher. Acrylics is one of the many mediums she has mastered. I highly recommend her. She teaches private lessons and through Arlington Adult Education.
Another great resource is the Arlington Arts Center:

Lisa Blas teaches at the AAC. She's very popular, teaches at the Corcoran as well, and has gotten great reviews from students. In fact, she's got a cadre of followers. I'd recommend her.
Hi! Arlington county Parks & Recreation offers painting and drawing classes with a wonderful instructor--Jim Halloran. You can find them listed in the class bulletins and on line:

Just to close the loop on this discussion, I took a class with Jane McIlvaney Coonce through Arlington Adult Education. Jane is great, the classes are very good, and I will do it again this coming year. - Ted
